Here are some things you need to know to make shopping for your new Honda air compressor easier.
Before you can decide the size of the compressor you need you must first look at what you are going to use it for. Lets suppose you have a workshop and need an air compressor to drive your pneumatic tools. Look at the documentation for your tools and find the amount of air needed for each tool. The documentation for a nailer for instance may say “air consumption - 3.0 SCFM* 10 nails per min at 90 psig**” This means that this tool needs 3.0 cu. ft. of compressed air to drive 10 nails/min at 90 pounds /square inch. So you need to llok for a compressor with at least this capacity. If you need to be using more than one tool at once (for a bigger workshop for instance) you will need to add up the individual compressed air requirements.
Type of Compressor
Power source and Portability
If you will be using the compressor in an outside location away from an electricity source you will, of course, need a gasoline powered compressor. For in a workshop an electric power unit will be more suitable. A stationary model would be more suitable if it is to be permanently installed in a workshop.
Features
Modern piston driven compressors are oil free and do not require much maintenance. There should be a pressure release valve, a pressure gauge and a switch which is both manual and automatic Check that any portable units are easy to move around with a convenient carrying handle. Stationary models need to have secure brackets for mounting.
* SCFM Standard cubic feet per minute
**psig pounds per square inch gauge
